Young graduates trained on work readiness
The Centre for Grassroots Enterprise (CGE) of the Street Children Empowerment Foundation (SCEF) with support from the Ghana Social Workers Union, UK has organized a workshop for recent graduates on work readiness. The workshop was aimed at preparing the graduates for the job market.
Dr Anita Davis Defoe, Executive Director of the John Maxwell Team and facilitator of the workshop, underscored the need for young people to identify themselves first, know what they are interested in and also make use of every opportunity that comes their way as that will help them determine the career path to follow. She therefore called on them to be deliberate in choosing their career path.
“As young people, you must set and be committed to your career goals. You must be driven by passion and also build upon your career brand since that will help create more opportunities for you”, Dr Anita Added
Dr Anita further encouraged the young graduates to cultivate the habit of saving to guarantee a sustainable future. She called on them to eschew overspending tendencies and explore various savings and investment options both within and without the formal financial system.
‘’You must learn to differentiate your needs from your wants, make savings your priority. It is important to maintain and keep to a clearly define budget as that is the surest way to check overspending and rather save more ‘’, She added.
The workshop which brought together 20 young graduates comprising mainly street-connected persons who were beneficiaries of SCEF’s scholarship, saw participants taken through goal setting, job readiness and search, financial literacy, and writing a CV.
Participants express satisfaction with the workshop and express their gratitude to CGE for the impact.
