Volunteering & Internship
As a volunteer, you will help make the dreams of street-connected children come true and provide them with a better future. You will get an insight into the field of social work and gain a lot of practical experience for your future.
Street Children Empowerment Foundation (SCEF) is a Non-Governmental Organization in Ghana’s capital Accra. We use a unique social work approach that directly impacts the child. To achieve sustainable improvements in the lives of street and vulnerable children in Greater Accra and any other areas in which we operate.
Our work is done closely with children, their families, the schools they attend, and their communities through advocacy, educational support, complimentary education services, grass-roots enterprises, and local self-led, self-capitalized microfinance.
During the past 13 years, SCEF has welcomed more than 250 volunteers from Ghana and abroad. Only through our volunteers we have succeeded to become a well-established NGO. We value any effort by our volunteers and would like to motivate other young people to become part of our energetic team in Accra.

Monitoring & field visits
Monitoring and fieldwork go hand in hand with social work with street-connected children. Especially in the Social Service Team, the interns and volunteers are highly engaged in monitoring and fieldwork making it a key area of our responsibility. As part of our responsibility to protect our employees and not to put anyone at risk, we have established rules to protect them. Exceptions may be made at the discretion of the social workers in consultation with the Volunteer Coordinator.
Feedback and Evaluations plan
Regular feedback and evaluation are part of every stay at SCEF. Through our comprehensive feedback and evaluation plan, we create a 360-degree assessment that will support your growth. At the same time, we ensure that individual and organizational goals are met.
Innovation and Empowerment of Volunteers and Interns
As volunteer or intern you can sustainably influence SCEF with new innovative ideas. Your creativity is in high demand and will be encouraged by the SCEF team. We rely on your expertise and support your efforts. You will be given the opportunity to implement your own projects and programs and will be supported appropriately every step of the way. You can also seek support from other volunteers in the implementation.
Gender Approach
SCEF encourages all applications from individuals equally. No one is discriminated against on the basis of gender, age or race in the selection of volunteers and interns. SCEF follows its gender-sensitive leadership principles to prevent any form of injustice and discrimination.
