COVID-19: SCEF begins distribution of 2000 facial masks in James Town
The Street Children Empowerment Foundation (SCEF) in partnership with Send A Smile e.V have shared facial masks for children in street situations and their families at their center in James Town, Accra. With strict adherence to the social distancing directive, the foundation gave thirty out of two thousand facial masks which is to be shared in James Town, Accra as part of measures to prevent the spread of coronavirus. This activity is part of the foundation’s project on coronavirus prevention dubbed ‘’Wash Coronavirus Away from James Town’’.
A social service provider of SCEF Anthony Bosomtwe, educated the children and their families on the essence of wearing facial masks during this pandemic.
Children in street situations and their families were also educated on the essence of;
- Regular hand washing with soap under running water.
- Regular use of hand sanitizers
- Practicing social distancing.
‘Children in street situations and their families had the opportunity ask question with regards to coronavirus. We also educated them on hand washing techniques and its importance during this difficult times. They were happy to practice the hand washing techniques at our center.’ Social service provider Anthony Bosomtwe said.
According to the Ghana Health Service one thousand one hundred and fifty-four (1154) cases of coronavirus have been recorded in Ghana as at today April 24, 2020 with Greater Accra Region having the highest number of confirmed cases.
Jamestown, Accra is an overcrowded area with about two hundred thousand people in the Greater-Accra region of Ghana.
