Launch of SCEF’s 15th Anniversary and Free the Children Campaign

Last Friday, October 18, was a night to remember as we launched both SCEF’s 15th Anniversary and our year-long Free the Children Campaign. The event, held at AMA Omanye Aba Hall, set the stage for a renewed fight against child trafficking and exploitation, one of the greatest threats to Ghana’s vulnerable children.

The evening began with a heartfelt throwback video reflecting on SCEF’s 14-year journey—a journey filled with dedication, passion, and impactful programs that have transformed the lives of many children on the streets. The video transitioned into an exciting preview of what lies ahead for our 15th anniversary, which promises a year of heightened advocacy, awareness campaigns, and continued support for children in need.

The formal launch was celebrated with a cake-cutting ceremony led by Toyin Dania, SCEF’s assistant board Chair, joined by the SCEF team and all our dedicated partners. This symbolic moment marked the beginning of what will be a year of significant milestones, new initiatives, and lasting change.

One of the most powerful highlights of the night was the performance by Accra Dances Movement and The Children’s Parliament Ghana. Through an emotional blend of drama, dance, and poetry, the performers illuminated the dark reality of child trafficking and exploitation. The powerful artistic expressions deeply resonated with the audience, drawing them into the gravity of the issue and igniting a strong call to action.

The screening of the film Sound of Freedom was another unforgettable moment. The movie, centered on real-life stories of child trafficking, left the audience in a state of mixed emotions—shock, sadness, and a shared sense of urgency to combat this atrocity. It was a stark reminder of why SCEF’s work is critical in Ghana and beyond.

The panel discussion, moderated by the insightful Apiokor, brought together leading voices in child rights advocacy. Panelists included:

  • Paul Semeh (Founder & Executive Director, SCEF)
  • Jonathan Kojo Anderson (Senior Manager for Grants and Partnerships, Challenging Heights)
  • Afasi Komla (Director of End Modern Slavery, Engage Now Africa)
  • Beatrice Abeongo (Department of Social Welfare)

Each panelist shared their expert insights on the steps needed to combat child exploitation in Ghana, offering both practical solutions and calls for greater collaboration across sectors. The engaging discussion further ignited the audience’s resolve to be part of the change, as evidenced during the Q&A session, where individuals passionately voiced their concerns, asked thoughtful questions, and sought ways to get involved.

The event concluded with a lively performance by DSL, SCEF’s ambassador artist, whose music uplifted the crowd and served as a reminder that hope and resilience are at the core of this fight.

We owe a special debt of gratitude to Interactive Digital, who played a pivotal role in ensuring the event’s success. From providing all the creatives and artworks to making generous donations in both cash and kind, their support was integral. They also ensured the event was beautifully covered, preserving these important moments for all to witness.

Our heartfelt thanks also go to Crenshaw Limited, whose involvement as a key partner enriched the entire evening. Their commitment to SCEF’s cause was evident in every detail of the event’s execution.

As we reflect on this milestone evening, we know that this is just the beginning. The Free the Children Campaign is a year-long initiative, and we are committed to making a lasting impact. This campaign is only possible because of the unwavering support of our partners, sponsors, and every individual who purchased a ticket or made a donation. You are the reason we can continue this fight and bring hope to the children who need it most.

To all our partners, friends, and supporters—thank you. Your dedication fuels our mission, and together, we are creating a brighter future for the children of Ghana.

We invite everyone—individuals, organizations, and communities—to join us in this ongoing journey. Volunteer with us, spread the word, or donate to support the Free the Children Campaign. Together, we can make child trafficking a thing of the past.
